Behind the Scenes: The Making of Triornithopter V

Salvaged bubblegum machine parts used for the body of Triornithopter V

Serendipity played a big part. I found the front face plate of a bubblegum machine at the salvage yard, and almost two months later, I discovered the main body. I was stoked when the two pieces fit together!

Cutting stainless steel herb-cutter fenders for the robot sculpture

Many parts had to be custom designed, like the herb-cutter fenders. Stainless steel is incredibly tough; I ground my Dremel cutting wheel down to almost nothing getting through it.

First test assembly of Triornithopter V featuring a car fan neck assembly

First test assembly. The neck is from a car fan assembly that fit the gum machine body perfectly.
