The fifth series of the Triornithopter 'bots became the first robot to successfully travel interdimensionally. Its unique form allows for ease of use in surface, air, and space travel. Behind the Scenes: The Making of Triornithopter V

Initial parts discovery

Serendipity played a big part. I found the front face plate of a bubblegum machine at the salvage yard, and almost two months later, I discovered the main body. I was stoked when the two pieces fit together!

Cutting stainless steel

Many parts had to be custom designed, like the herb-cutter fenders. Stainless steel is incredibly tough; I ground my Dremel cutting wheel down to almost nothing getting through it.

First test assembly

First test assembly. The neck is from a car fan assembly that fit the gum machine body perfectly.

Priming the robot

After hours of sanding and prep, the 'bot received a primer coat followed by its signature red paint.
